Prince Edward Island born/Vancouver based Singer-Songwriter

Whether it’s an Intimate house concert, seedy bar gig, or a festival stage, Steve Somers is a master at tailoring a set list and backing band to suit the venue.

Steve Somers is an award winning songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. Originally from Prince Edward Island, he has made the Lower Mainland BC his home for more than 20 years. In that time he has been truly bi-coastal, playing shows on both coasts, engaging audiences that listen and sing along to his well crafted songs. The songs themselves are full of real-life characters, heartbreak, hilarity, and humanity. Very often the songs are introduced with the real life story from where it came.

In 2021, his first recording effort – a 12 song  album titled “Songs About St Georges” was released and received very well . It was the recipient of the Wendell Boyle Performance Award, awarded by the PEI Museum and Heritage Society, and presented by Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry. The award resulted in a series of sold-out shows, and radio play on CBC and some East Coast Community Stations.

A live album of Steve’s  songs and stories was recorded in 2022, and a new album titled “Sure Got Love” is expecting release in early 2024.

Steve’s musical style is a unique blend Americana, bluegrass, and folk, but the East Coast music of his upbringing also comes out in his songs like the hard R’s in his PEI accent. His songwriting heroes, people like Steve Earle, Guy Clark, John Prine, Fred Eaglesmith, and Stan Rogers, have had a big influence on the writing and delivery of his original songs.

As a solo act, Steve accompanies himself with  Acoustic guitar and mandolin. Depending on the event or venue, he can add a simple accompaniment, put together full back line electric band, or an All-Star line-up of musicians in the Bluegrass style.

A Prince Edward “Islander” by birth, and by heart, music has been a life-long companion.
